The Long Road Travelled by Paddy McCaul and Friends

''Betrayal is the only truth that sticks'' - Arthur Miller.

This is the letter of resignation of Paddy McCaul from our company. I received it  on May 15th 2020.

This is the letter of resignation of Cieran Temple from our company. I received it on May 19th 2020.
These letters were obviously drafted by the same person, almost certainly a lawyer. The address (ex-Minister For Justice Paddy Cooney's old gaff) comes from the Companies Registration Office and is one which both men would know not to be mine. The lawyer doesn't appear to know either man well, using 'Patrick' and a misspelling of 'Cieran' - and 'faithfully' was the wrong choice for an old acquaintance.

It should be noted that at the time the letters were sent, Paddy was in a situation of having come to an accommodation with Garda Dully's people, while Garda Dully's people were pursuing Mr. Temple for E276,397. The two men were also at loggerheads in the Court of Appeal, with Paddy arguing that there was a legal settlement on May 23rd 2019 and Cieran arguing that there wasn't. That is what intrigues me about the letters, that some outside force had such a hold over the two men that it could bring them together in those circumstances -  surely the same force that drove their actions on both May 23rd 2019 and two years earlier (when they advocated that I should sign over the property to the FAI for free - John Delaney made a marginally better offer later that day, throwing in an unspecified number of international match tickets). It must be something almost primal, deeper than a promise.

In my opinion, Cieran has been used by unscrupulous people and doesn't deserve any of this. I tried to warn him about what could happen if he didn't turn up and tell his story in court but, like myself a year or two earlier, he chose to place all his faith in the advice of the lawyers - who didn't want him in court, where he might have told the truth. I am grateful to Cieran for his assistance in running our company and I wish him well.

I would also like to wish Paddy well, as is fitting for such a popular person in Athlone, known for his kindness and common touch. But first he will need to stop hiding in the shadows and explain himself. None of the local media would refuse to air his views. But he appears to have nothing to say, not even a word about the apparent death of his beloved Athlone Town (Association) FC. He has so many questions to answer; whether he really was loaned E25,000 to give to Garda Dully's lawyers, whether the same benefactor is funding his case in the Court of Appeal, why it was he alone who was approached by Garda Dully on May 21st 2019 and he alone whose name was on the final 'agreement' (see Requested Documents - December 20th) two days later, why neither he nor Garda Dully signed that 'agreement', why he accepted Cieran's removal from the 'negotiations' which preceded the 'agreement' and, above all, why he is now fighting our and his (Paddy has held on to his shareholding) company, myself and Cieran on behalf of that 'agreement' - which removes the protections the stadium held (for the people of Athlone) under our company's constitution.

Apart from the endless lies and manipulations, there has been a lot of criminal activity around this case. That may strike the reader as hyperbole, but it is well documented here. Among the legal fraternity alone, we've had outright fraud, perverting the course of justice (misrepresenting documents, backdating an affidavit, coordinating strategies with the opposition), perjury, forgery, a type of embezzlement and a type of entrapment (using Paddy to keep me chatting while Mr. O Dulachain and his two colleagues snuck in to compose a 'settlement' in front of us - hoping that could later be claimed as consent on my part through physical proximity).  On the club side of things, we've had impersonation (presumably towards fraud  - the FAI knows but is refusing to answer the question - see Document A from '66 Problems With the FAI, November 18th), consorting with organised crime, setting up the apparatus for money laundering, perverting the course of justice (that round of golf in Summer 2017, misrepresenting a document) including falsification of evidence (submitting a fake document and an abridged document), not to mention adventures with Revenue.

Then there is the other major player in all this. Our main task now is to discover who or what was behind the (arguably successful) attempt to sabotage our company's defence in the High Court. That is a serious crime and I will do what I can to help bring them to justice. I might be on the wrong track in thinking the same party was behind the resignation letters but anyway, here is the envelope in which Mr. Temple's letter was sent. The 'f ' is very distinctive. I will pay a reward for any information that will lead to the criminal prosecution of any of these guys.
